For those who missed the announcement or aren’t in the Material Girl VIP group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/thematerialgirlaustralia/) I’m now helping Missy out and joining her as admin of the group. I’m super excited about my new role and helping all the gorgeous ladies in there to pick the right fabric for their project and maybe a bit of enabling to jump outside of their comfort zone and try some fabric bases that they haven’t before.
But onto this GORGEOUS dress I whipped up for Chook on the weekend. Despite the fancy design this pattern was a quick sew with high pay off! Its the Simple Life Pattern Company’s Molly Dress.
I extended the dress by about 2 inches to hit below knee, ideally I would have loved to do a maxi for her but that’s impracticable for my busy girly tom boy 3yr old but this length still gives the drama of the dress. This was the collar and flat front options. The pattern also gives an option for a pintuck bodice, top, dress and maxi lengths.
I even managed an accidental pattern match across the back bodice – the pattern calls for buttons but I just couldn’t bring myself to spoil the pattern match with buttons so I added snaps before I added the skirt after interfacing the lining on the bodice for the snaps. I also put the snaps between the outer and the lining to really keep the pattern match 100%.
The collar and lining fabric is a sateen from spotlight, but the wolves are an exclusive design for The Material Girl Australia. Pre-order just closed on this print ‘Otis’ and I can’t wait to see what everyone else creates with it in March. Retail for this fabric wont be until about March but it’s totally going to be worth the wait.
My brother and sister in-law will be getting a minky blanket (late christmas present) for their house with this print too. My brother jokes about his fiance being a ‘mother of wolves’ with their 2 huskies so hopefully they love the blanket when its finally done, and Chook wears her dress there when we give it to them :’)
Chook is over modelling after her weekend of it this was the final shot from this quick shoot – such a classic.
Keep your eyes out for another strike off post later this week 😉
