Mermaids On Dry Land

I love signing up to test patterns or do blog tours they give me the push that a deadline brings to sew something new AND photograph it without it sitting for months. I was super thrilled to be invited to participate in the Tie Dye Diva’s Mermaid Blog Tour.

The blog tour is super fun with everyone taking the time to celebrate their curves by sewing up a version of the Mermaid Maxi from Tye Dye Diva Sewing Patterns. Today is day three and you can see the full list of participants and links to their blog at the bottom of this post – make sure you check out the Day one and two blogs and check back over the next 2 days to see the rest as they go live.

There is also lots of fun and games planned for the tour to join in on:

It was perfect timing with my annual conference for my Jewellery Business (Lily Anne Jewellery) coming up and this year it was a 3 night cruise instead of being held at a resort. I was planning on using the fishtail option for the pattern to make my Great Gatsby outfit the event with some sequin fabric I had in my stash. Alas I ran out of time to get it done with the other conference sewing I had to do. I am still planning on making it up though because I think it will look AMAZING.

I went with the straight option in a basic colour, which my wardrobe is sorely lacking. It is soo comfy and is going to be on high rotation in my wardrobe through ALL seasons.

I love the split in this skirt its high enough to let me comfortably play with my kids without feeling restricted but also low enough to prevent any flashes. I would see it being a fairly sexy height in an evening fabric and heels too.

Its Autumn at the moment in Australia and as much as the leaves everywhere causes a mess they do look beautiful and we had some fun tossing them up into the air. Chook and Buddy were ‘helping’ me with photos so I had little photobombers to crop out of most images but I couldn’t resist leaving this one as is.

Changes I would make next time I make this pattern (and there will be a next time)

  • add the pockets for an everyday basic (included in pattern) because kids = pockets
  • swap out the elastic waistband for either a thicker elastic or draft a yoga style band that is slightly thicker

*I received this pattern for free as part of this blog tour but all opinions expressed are my own*
